How much data do you need? FAQ

Typical mobile data usage for the most common activities.

It depends on what you do online. A light user (maps, messaging, a little browsing) often needs just 1–3 GB per month, while someone who streams video daily can easily use 20 GB or more. Use the calculator above to estimate your own usage based on your real habits.

Streaming video in full HD (YouTube, Netflix, TikTok) uses roughly 1.5 GB per hour. In 4K it can be 7 GB per hour, while lower quality (480p) drops to about 500 MB per hour. Just one hour a day of HD video is around 45 GB per month.

Scrolling social media (Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn) uses about 150 MB per hour on average — more if it autoplays lots of video. One hour a day works out to roughly 4.5 GB per month.

Turn-by-turn navigation (Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze) is very light — only about 10 MB per hour. You can also download maps offline to use almost no data at all.

Streaming music (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music) uses around 100 MB per hour at high quality, and much less on lower-quality or data-saver settings. Downloading playlists on Wi-Fi first saves even more.

HD video calls (Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime) use roughly 1 GB per hour. Audio-only calls use a fraction of that — usually well under 100 MB per hour.
